Appointment Guidance

All requests for GP Appointments should be made using the 'Total Triage' form, submitted either online or by speaking to a member of our reception team.

Our Reception team can book evening or weekend appointments at other practices across the local area for patients who need to be seen by a Doctor when this practice is closed. 

Our experienced Practice Nurses and Health Care Assistants are available to deal with the following:

• Diabetic and Asthma reviews 
• Dressings changes, including suture (stitch) removal
• Immunisation and injections including childhood & flu vaccinations, medication injections eg B12, etc
• Contraception - including pills, emergency contraception, depo injections, coil checks
• Smear tests
• Annual health checks
• New patient medicals
• Blood Tests

Our Reception team can book evening or weekend appointments at other practices across the local area for patients who need to be seen by a nurse when this practice is closed.

The doctors can carry out home visits for patients who are housebound and who are more vulnerable.
We ask you to submit a 'Total Triage' form or call before 11.00 am to arrange this so that we can assess the need for a visit on the same day. However, this is at the doctor’s discretion and they will assess your situation over the telephone and advise you appropriately.

AAA screening is a way of checking if there's a bulge or swelling in the aorta, the main blood vessel that runs from your heart down through your tummy.  It can be serious if it's not spotted early on because it could get bigger and eventually burst (rupture).

If you are on repeat medications, you should expect to be called for a review around your birthday month every year.  

You may be offered a health check including blood tests, a specialist nurse review of your long-term conditions, a medication review by a pharmacist or doctor, and a complex care review if you have specific needs. During this period of review, you may have delays in accessing your medication, until it has been reviewed and re-authorised for another year. Attending your appointments when requested will speed up this process and avoid any delays. 

We have blood test appointments available for adults most weekdays, as well as more in-depth annual review health checks which also involved blood pressure, weight, urine, and foot checks, as required.

There are several options available, and we aim to find the safest and most effective type for you.

We can prescribe pills and can arrange appointments for contraceptive injections, implants, and coils.

Emergency Contraception

The Practice offers emergency contraception, which can be taken up to 72 hours after having unprotected sexual intercourse.

If there are no routine appointments, please ensure Reception staff knows that you require this service and they will arrange for you to be called promptly.

The NHS provides Cancer Screening services to pick up cancer early to give you the best possible outcome.  

•  Cervical Screening (Smear test)

We perform smear tests at the practice and take great care to make these as comfortable and acceptable as possible for you.

•  Breast Screening  ( Mammogram)

​ You will receive an invitation through the NHS screening programme to attend a local screening unit for your mammogram, usually every 3 years from the age of 50.

•  Bowel Screening                       

 You will receive a bowel cancer screening kit through the post every 2 years from the age of 60 or age 56. If this is not returned, we will be notified, and we will attempt to contact you to encourage you to do the test.

The below gastro or weight problems can be managed by our dietician helping to avoid a wait to discuss these symptoms with a Doctor. For patients aged 16 years and over.
Weight management support —Including overweight, obesity management, unexplained weight gain.
Unexplained gastrointestinal systems—including Irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease, abdominal (tummy) pain, bloating, wind, diarrhoea, constipation, acid reflux.
Malnutrition—Including unexplained weight loss, nutritional supplement drinks, wanting to put on weight.
Cardiovascular Disease—Including blood pressure management, cholesterol management, and diet advice for heart health.

Request a midwife appointment for when you are around 8 weeks pregnant, you do not require a doctor's appointment to confirm the pregnancy.

MAT B1 forms are given at over 20 weeks by your midwife, not by the Practice.

We offer mental health assessment, therapy, and support through the IAPT service, for first-line options.  You may wish to self refer here for the IAPT service.

We are also delighted to be able to now offer patients aged 11 to 35 a variety of additional mental health services through our Primary Care Network Mental Health team. A referral is required from one of our clinicians.  

New Baby Checks

After birth, your baby has a physical health check by your midwife.

We repeat this check at 8 weeks of age, to check for any health problems, and usually perform the first set of vaccinations at the same appointment.

A member of staff from the practice will get in touch with you to register the baby and arrange an appointment.

Postnatal Health Checks

We like to review the mother's health at around the same time as the baby check.

This appointment is to review your physical and emotional recovery after birth and to address any contraceptive needs.

The below musculoskeletal problems can be managed by our First Contact Physio (an experienced advanced physiotherapist) helping to avoid a wait to discuss these symptoms with a Doctor.

• Soft tissue injuries, sprains, strains, sports injuries.
• Problems such as tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome.
• Arthritis—any joints
• Spinal pain—any location including spine related pain in arms or legs.
• Post surgery fracture where a routine follow up has not already been organised.
