Mounjaro and Ozempic
23 June 2025
We are aware that there is a huge amount of media coverage about injectable weight loss drugs (Mounjaro and Ozempic) and the fact that GP’s are now able to prescribe these for obesity. Currently the ICB, who commissions local services, have stated that these medications are NOT to be initiated by primary care/GP’s. A recommissioned obesity service to provide these medications is anticipated by September 2025. It is worth noting that in the first year only those in the highest priority cohort will be considered (BMI>40 and at least 4 obesity related conditions). Please be prepared that if you request this medication, we will not be able to help at the current time. We will be monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as they arrive.
